UWell Crown vs Caliburn Koko vs Caliburn, the ultimate comparison.
UWell created what many vapers considered the best pod vape of 2019 with the Caliburn. Towards the end of the year they released and updated version, the Caliburn Koko and here in 2020 the new UWell Crown pod system.

What’s The Difference?
Let’s start with the Caliburn and the Koko. They both use the same pods but the difference comes in the shape. The Caliburn is a tall slim pod vape and the Koko has a boxier design.
When it comes to the UWell Crown you’ll notice it’s a massive upgrade in all areas.
The pods have increased capacity, up to 3mL, but have the same top fill mechanism. Battery size gets a dramatic upgrade effectively doubling the capacity. Wattage is also increased, more than doubling the power to 25W.
UWell Crown Pods
The new UWell Crown pods not only have an increased capacity they have adjustable airflow. On the side of the pod is a sliding switch which you can adjust to find the perfect pull. There are two pods in the kit, a 0.6 pod for a restricted direct to lung vape and a 1.0 Ohm MTL pod.
One thing that should be noted is that the pod has a significantly different tip to both the Caliburn and the Koko. The duck bill design is similar to that of the SMOK Nord pod where the Caliburns are more like that of the Novo 2.
Some vapers pefer the mouth feel of the smaller pods, this writer being one, so that should be taken into consideration.
How long do UWell Crown Pods last?
It varies from vaper to vaper depending on how much you vape but what you can assume is that UWell pods tend to outlast their competitors. One of the reasons for this is the patented Pro-Focs technology.
Although their competitors are catching up to UWell in terms of taste the Crown pods produce some of the tastiest vaping of any pod system.
How does the UWell Crown Pod System draw?
The draw is different compared to the Caliburn pods. UWell market the Crown pod system as a MTL vape and half direct lung. Depending on which type of pod you’re using and how the airflow is adjusted can vary the vaping experience.
Which is the best?
Out of the 3 devices it has to be the Crown pod system. Bigger battery, more power, larger juice capacity and adjustable airflow make the UWell Crown the most have pod vape for 2020.

What is a Pod System?
A vaping pod system is a device that is a step above a basic e-cigarette, but not as advanced as some of the larger full-sized personal vaporizer options. Introducing the amazing SMOK Novo 2. The original Novo has consistently been our best selling pod system of 2019. Our customers love its small size and portability. However, some vapers experienced some operational issues over time. SMOK listened to the feedback and has upgraded nearly everything on the SMOK Novo 2.
It’s very slightly larger and heavier but you won’t notice as it’s only a tiny increase. When we examined them both side by side we couldn’t see any difference at all.
The battery is the main upgrade, the 450mAh on the original has been upgraded to an 800mAh battery in the Novo 2. Battery life has also been optimized, a larger wattage range (6-25W) means you get a better long-lasting vaping experience.
One complaint with the original was the lack of a battery indicator light. SMOK has addressed this with a LED light which shines when charging or vaping. Having the indicator light on when vaping is an excellent feature, now you can see battery levels with every draw.
With the Novo 2 you get to choose from the whole family of replacement SMOK Novo pods. There are 3 new SMOK Novo 2 pods to choose from including a brand new Quartz coil which heats up super fast. It’s also worth mentioning that if you want the ultimate in ease and simplicity you can now buy pre-filled SMOK Novo pods, which are refillable! Pod capacity is the only thing which remains unchanged, still 2mL.
There has been a new groove added around the battery connection so that any condensation generated by vaping can easily escape. This avoids a condensation issue which some vapers experienced with the original. In a similar design to the excellent SMOK Nord there are new airflow slots on the side of the Novo 2. A new feature which draws more air through the coil and helps generate more vapor. The only fault that we could find with the Novo 2 is that the vape juice viewing window, a small clear bit of plastic beneath the mouthpiece, doesn’t work very well. Not a major issue as you can simply pop off the pod to check.

Just in time for halloween is the 13th pod vape for our list, the brand new Vaporesso Degree kit.
If you haven’t already watched our unboxing video we recommend that you do. It nicely gets across the quality of the construction, it really is a thing of beauty. The best looking pod vape on this list? Depends is you like shiny things or more robust vapes. It certainly isn’t a flashy as the next pod vape on our list but we think it looks just as cool.
In an interesting move, one we really like, the Push To Fill slot is exposed on the top of the device. This means it’s super easy and fast to fill with vape juice. If you transfer your favorite juice into the 10mL bottle provided in the kit you can fill without any spillage. You don’t need a viewing window or have to remove the pod to see your levels. The Vaporesso Degree gives a warning when e-liquid is low. It also has dry hit protection and auto pod recognition which are both neat features.
For beginner vapers the Vaporesso Degree is perfect. Super simple to use, just fill with juice and you don’t need to worry about anything else. Settings are auto configured and the Degree tells you when to refill.
But the cool features don’t stop there. The AXON chip also features the Pulse mode of firing. With Pulse the Degree fires continuously throughout your vape for a more intense vaping experience. Flavor reproduction is good, maybe not quite as impressive as some coils in the SMOK pod systems and certainly not at the same level as the Caliburn. The Breeze 2 from Aspire is another massive favorite in the vaping.com office. From its awesome box all the way to the cool little coils this is a device that’s 100% winning. Once you stop admiring it in its box and start to put in the vape coils you immediately feel the brilliant build quality. You get two coils in the box, one 1.0 Ohm U-Tech coils and one 0.6 Ohm coil, which are specifically designed to use with nic salts. The filling is super easy, simply eject the pod cartridge by pressing the two button on the side and open the tight-fitting silicone seal. To adjust the airflow, there is a knurled airflow ring which when adjusted can create a huge difference to the vaping experience. This is an awesome mouth to lung pod system, a no brainer for our best of the pod systems compilation.

You’ll probably be aware that there have been a number of recent injuries associated with vaping reported in the media.
Naturally, we’ve been following this story closely and we want to reassure our customers that these injuries are completely unrelated to the products we sell.
All products on vaping.com are standard nicotine-containing vapor products and, since their availability in 2004, they have not been associated with any known outbreak of injuries.
We are prevented from making specific claims about the safety of our products by FDA regulations, but we do believe we are legally entitled to reassure you that these injuries have been caused by THC products and not nicotine products.
What do we know?
As multiple outlets have now reported, and as the FDA advised on Friday, the current spate of injuries are related to contaminated THC/cannabis extract products.
We still await official confirmation, but the most likely source of this contamination is tocopherol acetate (aka, vitamin E acetate), which has been added to THC extracts as a thickening agent.
E-cigarette liquid does not contain thickening agents of any description. In all cases, e-liquid contains flavourings, propylene glycol, glycerol, water and nicotine or nicotine salts. This is the same basic formulation that has been used e-cigarettes were first marketed in 2004. Again, this formulation has not been associated with any outbreak of lung injury.
For THC consumers
If you are a consumer of THC vapes, it would be advisable to stop using these products until such a time as the contamination is confirmed. If you do continue to use them, make sure you purchase them from a licensed dispensary and ensure that the dispensary is able to guarantee that the products they sell you have been tested for contaminants and do not contain any thickening or thinning agents.
HEALTH officials have hit back over claims vaping is responsible for an outbreak of respiratory disease in the US and have reassured the public that regulated products continue to be safe to use.
Experts stepped in to appease public worry after news outlets reported there have been six deaths and 450 cases of a severe respiratory illness, thought to be linked to vaping, across 33 states of America.
The patients were reported to be mostly young people with symptoms including shortness of breath, coughing, fever, fatigue and vomiting.
Of those hospitalized, many admitted to vaping a variety of substances including marijuana-based products and do-it-yourself brews, not regulated products.
US investigators are yet to establish the exact cause, but samples taken from patients with the condition showed high levels of vitamin E acetate, used as a thickening agent on the black market, which is commonly used to vape cannabis products.
In light of the news, the US government’s Food and Drink Administration (FDA) has now advised the public to stop vaping THC specifically, the marijuana compound that produces a “high”.
While some US states, which have legalized recreational marijuana for adult-only and medicinal use, oversee the products, the central government’s FDA doesn’t regulate it, meaning the black market has become flooded.
The FDA, the Centers For Disease And Control and Prevention (CDC) and US department of Health & Human Services (HHS) has also advised the public that cannabis vape products bought off the streets are untested, unregulated and could be contaminated.
Officials have also warned those who own illicit vape cartridges to throw them away immediately.
Health experts in both the US and UK have likewise stepped in to reassure regular vape users not to be concerned about using regulated vaping products – and reiterated the concern is more with illegal substances and practices.
The FDA’s former chief Dr. Scott Gottlieb said earlier this week the US government had put in a lot of work to ensure vape users buying regulated products are safe.
He wrote on Twitter: “The legal vapes have been actively regulated by FDA since Aug 2017. FDA has conducted thousands of inspections of manufacturers and vape stores, published manufacturing guidance, sought product removals etc. These tragedies point to illegal vapes and THC.”
He added that health officials can “target imports and conduct blitzes at international mail facilities to try and capture, shut down more illegal and counterfeit vapes and source some of the dangerous products.
“There are already published FDA lists of known dangerous ingredients to look for.”
Vapers in the UK have also been reassured by government body Public Health England – which has previously reported vaping is 95 per less harmful than smoking cigarettes – that it is safe to vape, as long as it’s from a reputable source.
Martin Dockrell, head of Tobacco Control at PHE, advised all vapers to use tightly regulated e-cigarette and vape products, saying: “A full investigation is not yet available but we’ve heard reports that most of these cases were linked to people using illicit vaping fluid bought on the streets or homemade, some containing cannabis products, like THC, or synthetic cannabinoids, like Spice.
He added: “Our advice remains that e-cigarettes are a fraction of the risk of smoking, and using one makes it much more likely you’ll quit successfully than relying on willpower alone.
“But it’s important to use UK-regulated e-liquids and never risk vaping home-made or illicit e-liquids or adding substances, any of which could be harmful.”
Professor Linda Bauld, a public health expert at Edinburgh University, was also quoted in British newspaper The Guardian as saying: “It seems highly unlikely that widely available nicotine-containing vaping products, particularly of the type regulated in Europe, are causing these cases.
“All the evidence to date suggests that illicit marijuana vaping products (THC oils) are the cause. In particular, a compound called tocopherol acetate may be the culprit.”
The US government’s Centers For Disease And Control and Prevention (CDC), who is undertaking the investigation, along with the American Medical Association (AMA) who have been urging consumers to avoid vaping altogether, has also come under fire.
Gregory Conley, president of the American Vaping Association, criticized the AMA for “fear mongering about nicotine vaping products” and not mentioning “the very real risks of vaping illicit THC products”.
Critics are also concerned the CDC’s blanket advice serves more of an instruction to smokers to keep smoking tobacco than helping to prevent further hospitalizations of those who are vaping black market THC products.
Public health expert Dr. Michael Siegel, a leading doctor and researcher at the Boston University School of Public Health called it “irresponsible” adding: “There are millions of people who are vaping nicotine-containing e-liquids and it would not be prudent for these millions of people to return to smoking in order to avoid the risk of this “unknown” and “mysterious” medical condition.
“Moreover, with such vague advice, no one is likely to change their behaviour because they are not being warned about any specific, identifiable risk.”
Public Health England added that e-cigarettes remain a “fraction of the risk of smoking” and advise vapers to take sensible choices when vaping such as buying from a reputable source and ensuring they are properly regulated products.

What’s New With The New SMOK Novo?
The best new feature of the SMOK Novo 2 is the new battery size. Despite no noticeable change in size SMOK have managed to almost double the battery capacity. From the original Novo’s 450 mAh battery the SMOK Novo 2 has a super generous 800 mAh. This is a good enough increase to vape all day long without requiring a charge. SMOK themselves claim on their website that the Novo 2 can be vaped for 3 days after being fully charged (at approximately 200 puffs per day). Impressive stuff for such a small pod vape.
Some vapers experienced an issue with the draw activation sensor on the original Novo so SMOK has completely redesigned it. The sensor features on the side of the u-shaped airflow intake and now it protrudes from the battery contact plane to avoid contactless suction. We’ve been using the Novo 2 for over a week now and haven’t experienced any firing issues, so credit’s due to SMOK for implementing that fix.
New Novo Airflow Design
Just like the SMOK Nord the Novo 2 has a small airflow slot on both sides of the mod. This draws the air in, down to the bottom of the pod before passing upwards through the coil to the mouthpiece. Despite this update, the draw on the SMOK Novo 2 is still noticeably tighter than the Nord. A significant feature for those looking for a draw experience like smoking a cigarette.
SMOK In The Groove
Sometimes pod systems have issues with condensation. To solve this SMOK have created two grooves either side of the battery connectors. With the Novo 2, any condensation generated when vaping gets locked in the groove so it can dissipate without issue.
New LED Indicator
One of the main complaints about the original Novo was the lack of any indication of the battery level, so once again SMOK visited the drawing board. The SMOK Novo 2 features a small light indicator on the front of the device which shines when your vaping or charging. So now you can easily see how much charge you have whenever you vape. The light shines green for 70% charge or more, orange when between 30-70% and red when 30% or less. A small change but one that makes a big difference.
Power Range
Output wattage on the SMOK Novo 2 is another big change. Previously the wattage range on the original was 10-16W but with the Novo 2 wattage ranges from 6W all the way to 25W. Background
JUUL – it’s the e-cigarette that everyone is talking about, but why do a lot of vapers dislike them. JUULs are everywhere these days, and represent a 75 percent of dollar market share in the four-week period ended Oct. 6 2018. Pod-based JUUL e-cigarettes aren’t like larger box mod devices. They are small and discrete and slip easily in your pocket. They’re classy too, and with no buttons they’re so easy to use that even your grandma – who struggles to operate a smartphone – could use one easily.
The JUUL pods don’t make big clouds of vapor and they use nic salts, which gives a nice smooth vape experience, similar to smoking a tobacco cigarette. People also like the fact that you can buy pods in places like gas stations and general stores, rather than just in vape shops. But there are some big issues with JUUL devices as well, the price of JUUL Pods to start with. So let’s see what the main issues are and if there any alternatives to JUUL pods.
Non-refillable pods
Our main issue is with the pods. JUUL pods are made exclusively by the manufacturer, so you are stuck with their flavors. Now that the flavor ban on prefilled pods is in place the flavor options are extremely limited. Additionally, the pods only contain 0.7 mL of e-liquid and they are non-refillable, so you can get through them very quickly. There is a way of ‘hacking’ the pods open, but it isn’t easy to do and the hacked pods are prone to leaking. Oh, and they aren’t cheap either.
Lacking power
JUUL devices aren’t particularly powerful either. They run at between 3.6 and 4.2V based on the charge level with a wattage output of (we think) between 6.5 and 9 Watts. A JUUL also only has a 200mAh battery that quickly fades with consistent use. Some people can get over these problems quite easily, but we believe that there are some much better alternatives out there that you should at least consider before you buy a JUUL.

Vaporesso Podstick is extremely cheap for the quality of the device. Vaporesso kits always have a real feel of quality about them and the podstick is no different. It feels great in your hand. On the front of the mod are 5 LED indicator lights to tell you how much charge is left (in 20% increments).
The firing key is nice and clicky (without being loud), just the way I like it. Once on press the firing key 3 times to change the power output, the light around the button will flash 3 times to acknowledge.
The pods are where the Podstick really shines. The top cap slides back to expose the PTF (push to fill) slot. Using the vape juice bottle provided with the kit (some bottles don’t work well with PTF), simply push down and fill the pod. Slide back the top cap and you’re done.
The only downside to the Vaporesso Podstick is that the pods are quite dark so seeing juice levels is tricky. Also you can’t replace coils, which for some is fine, but those who don’t like extra cost and wastage might be put off.
In summary the Vaporesso Podstick is a simple, cheap, slim and portable JUUL alternative.

SMOK Nord might be a chunky monkey in comparison to the JUUL but it’s a super versatile pod vape that continues to be very popular. Firstly instead of having to constantly replace pods with the Nord you can just change the coils. Not only does this cut down on waste it also cuts down the cost of vaping.
Pods can contain up to 3mL of vape juice and the battery is an impressive 1100mAh. This means you won’t be worrying about charge levels or refilling the pod very often. On the pod is a small viewing window to monitor juice levels but in reality it’s not particularly helpful. To get an accurate gauge you’ll need to remove the pod from the mod.
The best bit about the Nord is the coil options. Whatever type of vaper you are there’s a perfect Nord coil for you. Seeing as you’re looking for a JUUL alternative we’d recommend the 1.4 Ohm MTL coil, which mimics the restricted draw you’re so accustomed to. Coils last generous amount of time before you need to replace them so if you’re looking for a great vape which is cheap to maintain we definitely recommend the SMOK Nord.

Suorin Reno is a small and sleek pod system with massive performance. Big clouds and tasty flavor are generate by the replaceable 1.0 Ohm mesh coils. Just like the SMOK Nord you get a much cheaper vaping experience by replacing coils but with the Suorin Reno you get a much more simple vaping experience.
There isn’t a huge range of coils to choose from and the Reno is fired when you draw. The 3mL pod perform best when not fully filled as some vapers have reported flooding the coil and spitback. Powering up to 13W from a 800mAh battery should last a decent amount of time before requiring a charge.
When look for a JUUL alternative the Suorin Reno simply must be a consideration. Like the JUUL its super simple to use but the Reno has replacable coils, more power, more juice capacity and a longer battery life.
